Professional MotorSport World Expo 2009 Review
SUPLEX exhibited at the Professional MotorSport World Expo in Cologne for the first time in 2009. "The SUPLEX brand is well-known in the automotive aftermarket", comments Andrew D. Graham, Managing Director of SUPLEX GmbH, "and the Expo offers an ideal platform for us to promote our coil-spring expertise in other areas. We have the ability to design and manufacture suspension coil-springs for the most demanding vehicle applications, not just for motor sport, but also for military and specialised vehicle applications".
Visitors to the SUPLEX stand were able to view coil-springs manufactured from titanium alloy. Titanium alloy springs enable weight reductions of up to 70% over conventional steel springs, in addition to improved corrosion resistance. "These must be of serious interest to those vehicle manufacturers looking for significant reductions in unsprung weight and increased fuel efficiency", comments Graham.
SUPLEX also displayed the next generation of side-load springs. This radical, new design avoids the inherent problem of fitting a curved spring to a MacPherson strut and also results in a spring with shorter free length than the equivalent curved spring thus improving pedestrian protection in the event of an accident.
"This show is open exclusively to professionals working in motor sport so it was a great opportunity to meet with engineers from all over the world and discuss their projects. The Expo was extremely well organised and we will certainly consider participating again in 2010", commented Graham.
